I was one of those children who was always drawing, but I never saw myself in a career of fine art as I was also quite fascinated by science and the outdoors.  It took a few years for me to discover the field of natural science illustration which combines my love of both art and the natural world.  Through drawing, I am able to truly study my subject - whether that be a plant or animal or place.  And in crafting that drawing well, I can convey information to others.  As a traveler and adventurer, I spend a lot of time studying maps.  I find satisfaction understanding where we are in the universe and helping others find that sense of place through hand-drawn maps.  When I'm not drawing, I am building timber frame houses and barns, promoting renewable energy (I built my own solar-powered home), raising my son, as well as finding adventure in the Adirondack lakes, mountains, and beyond.
